CARROLLTON A Scio woman is dead and the man driving their car remains hospitalized in Cleveland after a two-vehicle crash Saturday.

Carroll County Sheriff's deputies were called about 1 p.m. to Kensington Road about one mile south of Augusta, said Sheriff Dale Williams.

Mary Koah, 53, of Mantle Road in East Rochester had been heading south on Kensington in a pickup truck and had stopped as a horse and buggy in front of her turned left, the sheriff said. Mitchell McMillin, 27, of Kilgore Ridge Road in the Scio area, was behind her, driving a Chevrolet Suburban south on Kensington.

Williams said that as Koah began to turn left, McMillin tried to pass her also on the left, striking her pickup. The collision flipped the Suburban several times. McMillin and his passenger, Ashley N. Bethel, 22, who lives with him, were thrown from the vehicle.

McMillin and Bethel were taken by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center, where Bethel later died, the sheriff said. McMillin was taken on to University Hospital in Cleveland. His condition Monday was not available.

Koah and her passenger, Joe Wengard of Arbor Road in Carrollton, suffered no life-threatening injuries, Williams said. McMillin's backseat passenger, an 18-year-old neighbor, also was not injured.

Williams said the crash remains under investigation.
